Venezuelan Ambassador Complains About International Media Coverage of Anti-Government Protests in Venezuela
According to an article posted by BBC news, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that many international networks have created a false idea that Venezuela is faced with civil war.
According to the latest reports, about 9 people have been killed and 137 people have been injured, many of them students, as a result of anti-government protests led by Opposition Leader Leopoldo Lopez, who was detained by authorities on Tuesday.
Among those killed was a 22 year old student and local beauty Queen Genesis Carmona. Nevertheless President Madur0, the late Hugo Chaves’s successor, condemned Lopez for the violent protests and was also quoted by BBC news as saying ,
“Enough war propaganda, I won’t accept war propaganda against Venezuela. If they don’t rectify themselves, get out of Venezuela, CNN, out!”
Another opposition March is scheduled for Saturday, this time, headed by opposition leader Enrique Capriles.
While the Venezuelan government is faced with the real struggle, the Embassy of Venezuela in Belize together with other members of the community are organizing the “Belizean Committee in Solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution” to strengthen the relationship between the two countries especially in these times of great political unrest.
Nevertheless, according to the Ambassador Yoel Marcano, the committee was not formed as a result of Venezula’s political crisis and is not set out to gain political support for Venezuela’s current Administration.

H. E. Yoel Perez Marcano: “Well, first, I would start saying that the committee was not formed for this situation that Venezuela is living today. The Belizean Committee with the Solidarity of diverse citizens of Belize who are friends of Venezuela, of her revolution, of its government and that by organizing itself, they pretend to promote the friendship and solidarity of the Belizean people and her social and political organizations with the Venezuelan people”.
H.E. Yoel Marcano, explained that the committee, in relation to Venezuela’s political unrest, will only seek to unveil the truth.

H. E. Yoel Perez Marcano: “For example, in this framework of political conflict existent in Venezuela, the Committee has assumed the task to diffuse into the bosom of the Belizean people, which are the real actual political circumstances into which Venezuela is passing through right now, and in that way, unmask the manipulation of misinformation that the huge international news agencies and the global TV stations like CNN have been developing, and thus, they pretend to show that Venezuela is a failed state”.
The committee is still in the process of forming. Mr. Evan Tate, Coordinator of the committee, further explained:
“Yes, we are still on the process of forming it; we are still trying to create our mandate. We have some guidelines in terms of the set out in some of the things that we want to get accomplished in the course of the next year”.
Reporter Emanuel Pech: “What sparked this initiative; what motivated it to be formed?”
Mr. Evan Tate: “It is not the first of its kind. The Venezuelans, along with other countries like El Salvador and Guatemala, have been forming different Committees in solidarity with the Venezuelan people, as you hear that the Venezuelan people have done, contributed and continued to do a great deal for countries like Belize as well as other countries in the region. We just want to not only showcase some of these things that the Venezuelans have done, but to stand in solidarity with them; we understand that there are a lot of issues that the country is facing right now”.
Current members of the committee met today with other hopeful members at the Venezuelan Embassy and are scheduled to meet again tomorrow where they plan to formulate the committees mandate.
