In the name of indigenous cultures, this past Saturday, the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation hosted a Mayan Expo, attended by the Yucatan Mayan Cultural Delegation of Orange Walk.  The exhibition is part of an effort to highlight the original people of the Americas, their ways of life and traditions and was chaired by Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Belize, Yoel Perez Marcano and Coordinator of the Banquitas House of Culture Yvette Torres. The Indigenous Resistance Day highligths how the indigenous people, after 500 years, have persisted in defending their origins, their identity, culture, languages and claim recognition as part of the cultural plurality of nations.
