Violent boyfriend shot by police

Punta Gorda police shot a man during a domestic violence situation. According to police, on Saturday August 1at 7:00 p.m., police were called to a  home on Wilson Ro ad, Forest Home Village, Toledo District to break up a domestic dispute turned violent. Police say they approached the residence of 47-year-old Jennifer Ramos where  her 19-year-old boyfriend, Byron Paiz was armed with a  machete. Police say upon their arrival, Paiz advanced towards the police officers with the machete and one of the officers fired a single shot at Paiz hitting him on his right hand in order to subdue him. The girlfriend then took away the machete from her boyfriend and threw it about three feet away but the boyfriend, Paiz still managed to retrieve the machete even though he had been shot in the hand. Once he grabbed the machete a second time,  police fired a second shot hitting Paiz on his right leg. Police were then able to subdue Paiz and took away the machete. He was immediately escorted to the Punta Gorda Hospital where he was later transported to the Southern Regional Hospital then to the K.H.M.H in a stable condition. Police are investigating.
