VIP to Contest 2015 Municipal Elections

The Vision inspired by the people, also known as VIP, is a political third party that has been around for over 5 political terms  but has never won a seat at the House of Representatives or at the Council level.

VIP party leader Paul Morgan ran for the 2009 municipal elections in Belmopan. Morgan again put his name on the ballot in 2012 but was also unsuccessful that time.. Today, on this morning’s Rise and Shine show,  the VIP announced their new slate for the upcoming Belmopan Municipal elections.

“We want to inform the Belmopan residents and the nation that the VIP is going to be contesting the Belmopan City Council Election.

The Belmopan slate is almost there.  There’s one person who still needs to confirm.  I am the Mayoral candidate.”

“Every day somebody is saying something, ‘We need change, we need this,’  but the braveness is not there with everybody to come out and do it.  Lots of people want to do it.

What I think I could bring along with these boys, and with everybody in Belmopan, because it’s not only a team to put there and leave there.  Every individual need to do their input.  This is something I always admire with VIP.”

VIP’s Public Relations officer Bobby Lopez has never run for Mayoral candidacy, though he has been at the forefront of  many VIP movements. In 2009, Mr Lopez ran in Belmopan for the Municipal Elections,  but only as a councilor,  and he didn’t  place his name on the ballot in 2012. He has since changed his location and moved to San Pedro, and with a new environment and new found energy Bobby Lopez says he is ready to run for Mayor in San Pedro for the upcoming municipal elections.

“2012 was supposed to be my parting year in politics.  My wife and I agreed, but she relieved me of that for several reasons, because she knows I don’t like living with regrets.

Another reason is that every time I walk the streets of San Pedro, the beach of San Pedro, people keep stopping me, people keep saying. ‘You’re going to come again.  You’re going to do this again,’ including Town Board workers.  I was so inspired, I was walking the beach one day and a group of Town Board workers, I said ‘Good Morning’ and I kept walking, and I heard them in the background say, ‘That’s the guy that we should have voted for the last time.’  So I turned around and I said ‘You really think so?’  And they said ‘Yes.’  I said ‘OK, I might just give you that chance.’

You’ve given the PUP six years.  You gave the UDP nine years.  Give the VIP three, one chance to serve you, and I assure you, you will not be disapointed.”

VIP will also have  a municipality slate for Belize City.  The 2015 Municipal election is set for March 4th, exactly eight weeks from now.
