A truck driver for Belize Waste Control may face charges over a traffic accident which occurred on Tuesday  morning around 8:16 a.m. at the corner of Western Avenue and Mahogany Street in Belize City.

48 year old Orlando Pech was driving the garbage collection truck when he collided with a bicycle being ridden by Reyna Savala, who was accompanied by her three-year-old twin daughters Maria and Reyna.

[Paraphrased]  “I saw the bike fall in three pieces. I saw the lady down there and the kid.  The kid was bleeding from the head.

There was two babies and a lady.  The lady is a Spanish lady and the kid is Spanish too.  She was carrying the kids to school.

After that the guy just stop.

The lady was there for [about] twenty minutes and no ambulance showed up.  Someone in a pickup came and picked up the lady.  I thought the lady got her spine broken because the vehicle ran over her.

The kids were flung off the bike.  You can see where the bike is in three pieces.

The lady was laying there for a long while.  That’s what I saw.

A preliminary police report says that mother Reyna Savala and her daughter, also named Reyna, received minor injuries; however, Maria sustained injuries to her right foot which required surgery.

Orlando Pech has been served with a notice of intended prosecution while police investigations continue.
