Western Regional Hospital holds Dental Health Week Poem Competition for Primary Schools

In line with Dental Health Week, the Western Regional Hospital had accosted schools to have their Standard 4, 5, and 6 students participate in a dental health poem competition to go with this year’s Dental Health Week theme.

Dr. Anwar Arzu says after going through many well written poems, they came up with the top three winners.

“Dental Health Week is based on the theme, ‘Belizeans, Big Up Your Smile – It Reflects Your Style.’  So we are looking for creativity and originality surrounding that theme.

After heavy reading and sorting which poem was the top theme, we came up with a poem from Gabreli Coleman from Garden City Primary School.  She won our first place.

The second place winner is Shakila Welcome from St Edmund Champion RC in Teakettle.

Our third place winner is Cofi Mc Andrew from St Ann’s Anglican Primary School here in Belmopan.

I was impressed with a lot of the poems that were handed in.  The students are aware of Dental Hygiene.

We have an educational program.  We try to visit different Primary Schools, every Wednesday of each week.  In that way we also emphasise the importance of Dental Hygiene.”

The first place winner received an electronic tablet, while 2nd and 3rd place winners received school and dental supplies.
