The purpose of the exhibit was to build an awareness of the importance of statistics. Diana Castillo-Trejo is the head of the Data dissemination department of the Statistical institute of Belize. She spoke to us at the event.

Diana  Castillo-Trejo, Data Dissemination Dep, SIB: A not a lot of people know about the SIB although we have been here for many years and we’re the National Statistical Agency so all official statistics coming out of the country are done by the SIB. So we want to highlight again what we do and we want to take this opportunity to get children interested from a young age in math, which is of course the field that we are in.

Reporter: What are some of the main key points that are on display today?vlcsnap-2015-10-20-19h54m40s213

Diana  Castillo-Trejo, Data Dissemination Dep, SIB: Okay well from the SIB’s part, we are showcasing the range of statistics that we do. So we are looking at population statistics, labor force statistics, economic statistics. As you can see we have a lot of very visual type displays. This is one way that we use to bring statistics to the general public for people who may not necessarily like numbers, but it’s a good way to visually show what these numbers are about and how they relate to the everyday person.
