A workshop on the subject of clean development mechanism was held in Belize City this morning. It is an outgrowth of the worldwide reaction to climate change, especially in developed countries, which are being charged to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 25% by 2020. One of the ways countries can help each other is by investing in clean development programs. Belize, according to coordinator on climate change for the Ministry of Forestry, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Ann Gordon, is in line to benefit from assistance like this.

For example: we have a Solid Waste Management Landfill Project. This Project will collect methane gas from the land waste, capture it, and then those gasses won’t go into the atmosphere, because methane gas as a potent Greenhouse Gas. If that goes into the atmosphere it just would to the warming of the atmosphere.
In opening the conference, CEO of the Ministry Dr. Wendell Parham noted that Belize is already doing its part by adopting the renewable energy cause and promoting “green marketing.
