Today is being observed as World Autism Awareness Day. The day is dedicated to increasing knowledge and understanding about people living with autism. Autism, which is a developmental disability, impinges on normal brain functions. It usually surfaces during the first three years of a person’s life, and is a lifelong disorder. While scientists are still seeking a cure for autism, proper therapy can lessen behavior associated with the disorder. Persons who have autism often times have difficulty with social interaction and verbal and nonverbal communication. They may also demonstrate restrictive, repetitive or hyperactivity behavior.
